This is a sapphire crystal from the new Onh Bin Yee Htwet mine in the east of the Mogok valley. You can discover here how this specimen is unusual: Its lead grey color first is not common in Mogok. The stone host a lot of rutile silk in its core but as you can see near the surface the silk is nearly absent. The very strange thing with this specimen is the completely unusual crystal shape design mainly in the termination area: the stone surface shows some deep \\\"Canyon like\\\" geometric designs that we have never seen before in Mogok stones... Very very unusual! The present crystal shows few broken areas but its still a very nice piece to complete a Mogok gemstone collection. MK The mines producing this material is reported to have been depleted. LA |
