An interesting stone with color change under yellow and white light. The color change is a distinct and an attractive hue shift. The sapphire weighs 4.12 carats and looks like a 6 carater. The cutting is off center with the pavilion heavy on one end and shallow on the other. The seller reports the origins as coming from Madagascar and we have no reasons to not beleive him. You can hardly detect any inclusions even under 10x magnification giving the clarity of the stone a "clean bill of health". Straight parallel thin lines of color banding can be observed in a tilted position against a strong light through the pavilion. The hue is a dark blue that has a mix of green. It is dichroic - two colors observed from different optical axis - the second axis being purplish in color. |
